I have had quite a few people reach out to me on Instagram and ask about my extensions so I figured it’d be a good time to sit down and write a whole post about my experience and give just some basic information on them. If you’ve been considering them, read on 🙂
Three weeks ago I decided to go for it and I got microbead extensions installed by the babe herself Taylor in Windsor, Co. Between following the Habit Salon on Insta and all the Nanamacs girls and seeing all the gorgeous mermaid hair, I just knew I wanted some extensions for myself. Let me tell you, I don’t ever want to go back now!
A little background on my history with extensions…I’ve tried clip ins in the past and also had glue ins at one point about 7 years ago. Please please please, if you learn one thing from this post, let it be to NEVER GET GLUE INS! They never felt comfortable, it matted my hair, and and worse of all it damaged my hair horribly after only a few months! I remember crying because my hair looked so bad afterward and I swore I was over extensions and would never do them again.
However, I started noticing newer ways that stylists were installing extensions and it got me curious! When I moved to Fort Collins in October, I heard of an amazing local extension brand, Bello Haven, that people are in love with and I knew I had to have them! I reached out to Taylor after finding her and seeing her great work online and boom, I was scheduled and had them done. Here are my before and afters!
So what exactly is so great about these extensions you ask? Bello Haven hair is 100% remy, 2 gram I-Tip hair. In others words it’s real, it’s beautiful, and its thick! Using the microbead, or I-Tip, technique gives you a 360 degree range that tape ins or clip ins can’t. And the most important factor to me was that these will not damage your hair! After my first horrible experience, that was key for me.
Here are some questions that people had asked me on Instagram:
- What is the cost and maintenance on these? There are a lot of factors when it comes to cost. Location, your stylist and their expertise/years of experience, and hair extensions brand that is being used. While I do not feel comfortable with sharing exactly how much it cost me, I will say that it is for sure an investment (mine was over $1,000). You get what you pay for though and if taken care of, I will have this hair for up to a year, which in my opinion is a long time. As far as maintenance, you go every 6 weeks to have them moved up.
- How long are the extensions? They are 22 inches!
- Do these damage your hair? Not this technique, no! As long as they are installed properly and you do your part and take care of your hair, these will not in any way damage your real hair. If anything, I have noticed since getting them that I’m not using as much heat on my actual hair which in the long run will help it grow faster 🙂
- How are these installed, what exactly ARE microbead extensions? So microbead extensions, or I-Tip extensions, is the technique of using a bead that is clamped to the extension. There is no adhesive or heat used which is why this is not damaging to the real hair. The pressure is evenly distributed so there isn’t any pulling.
Some things I have learned since getting my extensions…1. Your head will be sore the first couple days after getting them installed! This is just from the beads having to be secured tightly, they loosen and get comfortable over time. Just pop a pain reliever the first few nights before bed and you’ll be fine! 2. Sleep with your hair in a loose braid to prevent tangles and keep the hair in better condition over time. 3. This hair mask and this serum were recommended by my stylist and are now must haves for me. I also love and use several Kevin Murphy products, including the dry shampoo, purple shampoo, and powder puff. Just the smell and packaging alone draw me in, it’s so good!
That is it for now 🙂 I’m sorry this turned into a novel but I really wanted to discuss and share my experience with microbead extensions and how they have really transformed my hair! Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it in my opinion and will I continue to wear them? Absolutely! Please make sure to research before picking a stylist and make sure they are certified and you love their work! If you live in northern Colorado, I highly suggest making an appointment with Taylor. She is co-owner of the brand new Facetté Hair Salon in Fort Collins and is so talented and sweet! She is Bellohaven certified and you can reach out to her on Instagram.
